Pigeon control and bird proofing in Hanford

Pigeons have it easy around Hanford. Grain, feed and spilled crops on nearby farms and dairies give them plenty to eat, and town offers endless places to rest. Their favorite spot lately is the shaded gap under rooftop solar panels. It stays cooler in summer, stays dry in winter and keeps them hidden from hawks. Once a pair moves in, others follow, and before long you have cooing at dawn, nests packed under the array and droppings spreading across the roof, the panels and the patio below. It’s more than an eyesore. Over time, droppings can stain and wear down roofing and paint, and nests trap debris and moisture right against the roof.

Our approach has two parts: clean up what’s there, then make the spot unwelcoming so the birds move on. We remove nests, debris and droppings from the affected areas, bag everything, and clean and sanitize the surfaces. Next, we install deterrents and exclusion suited to the location. On solar arrays, that usually means mesh guards around the panel edges that block the gap underneath. On eaves, ledges and rooflines, the measures depend on how the birds are getting in and where they perch. Everything is humane and focused on prevention, keeping pigeons out without harming them.

Hanford businesses deal with pigeons too. Building ledges, signs, canopies and warehouse rooflines collect birds and droppings that customers notice on walkways and storefronts, especially near restaurants and ag businesses. The sooner you act, the easier it is, because birds grow more attached to a site the longer they stay. Solar panel cleaning and gutter cleaning can be added to the same visit so the mess and the prevention are handled together.
