Hanford roof cleaning without the pressure

Look down almost any Hanford street and you’ll see concrete tile roofs, often with dark streaks or patches of crusty lichen on the slopes that get the least sun. Those marks are mostly organic growth, not just dirt. They take hold in winter, when tule fog and rain keep shaded tiles damp for days at a time, and they spread a little more each year. Shingle roofs on older homes show it too, as black streaks running down from the ridge. A roof covered in growth makes a house look older than it really is.

Pressure washing a roof is a gamble. High pressure can crack or shift tiles and strip the protective granules from shingles, and the damage is not always obvious from the ground. Our soft wash method skips the force. We apply a cleaning solution at low pressure that breaks down algae, moss and lichen, give it time to work, then rinse gently. Heavy lichen sometimes keeps fading for a few weeks afterward as weather washes away what’s left. We pre-rinse landscaping, rinse walls and gutters below, and keep foot traffic on tile to a minimum.

Around Hanford, trees matter more than you might think. Homes under big shade trees or near walnut and almond orchards collect leaves in the roof valleys, which hold moisture and feed growth. Trimming back branches and keeping gutters clear helps a clean roof stay clean longer. Many homeowners pair roof cleaning with a house wash, or schedule it before installing solar or putting a home on the market.
